Using SnipLists to Display Filed Snips
Previous  Top  Next

When you File a snip for long term storage, PageSnip automatically assigns it to a invisible SnipList called "All Snips".

You are also given the ability to associate the filed snip with any number of other SnipLists.

This is a very powerful feature of PageSnip because it makes it easy to locate all the snips that are related to a given subject (the SnipList) and it takes into consideration that the same snip may be related to more than one SnipList.

In the PageSnip Manager when you click the SnipLists button, you see this screen:

The sections of the SnipList screen (below the toolbar) are:

Selecting the SnipList

clip0207

The default setting is "All Snips".

When you click View to display the filed snips with this selection you are presented a list of all the filed snips.

clip0211

The other option is "By SnipList".

When you select this option then current selected SnipList will be shown:

clip0208
Note: the first name in SnipList (sorted alphabetically) will be shown by default but when you select a different SnipList from the listbox below, your selection will be displayed in this box.

When you click View to display the filed snips with this selection you are presented a list of all the filed snips that are associated with the SnipList you have selected.

Let's see an example of what this means.

In the help section on Filing Snips we have an example of a snip filed about an Auction Photo Editor called FotoKiss.

This snip was added to two SnipLists: "Auction Tools" and Photo Related"

If we select the "Auction Tools" SnipList and click View we see our snip in that SnipList:

If we click Back and select "Photo Related", then click View again we see our snip again in that SnipList:

The physical snip only exists on our computer one time, but we can reference it in more than one way!

As mentioned above this is a very powerful feature of PageSnip because it allows you to look at the same snip in many different ways.

The next section of the screen is Select Sort Order

clip0213
By default when you click View the snips that match your SnipList selection are displayed with the most recent snips first.

This is an easy way to find something that you just filed.

You can also select options to display them sorted by Page Title and sorted by Date and Time.

Note: After your list of snips is displayed, you can change the sort order by simply clicking on the title of the column (such as where it says "Page Title")

The next section of the screen is SnipList Selector:

clip0214
You can select a SnipList in several different ways

·Clicking on the name of the SnipList
·Clicking on the SnipList and starting to type the name (the selector will jump to the closest match as you type)
·Using the VCR control (bottom left) to move up and down in the SnipList

The name of the selected SnipList will change in the select box automatically

The SnipList Selector

When you click in the SnipList box and start typing you will see the characters you type appear.

In the example above we are typing "photo" and you can see that as soon as the letter "p" was typed - the selector jumped to the SnipList we wanted and the name (in blue) updated to show our selection.

This makes it very easy to find a SnipList when you have a lot of them!

If you make a mistake, just use the Backspace key on your keyboard.

To clear the SnipList Selector and start over click the Clear Locator button:

You can use your mousewheel to scroll the list up and down (the scrollbar on the right will do this too).

As mentioned above there is also a VCR control on the bottom left of the list:

clip0060
From left to right - the VCR buttons do the following:

1) Display the first SnipList
2) Move the list Up one "page" (the number of SnipList visible at one time)
3) Move the selection Up one row
4) Not used
5) Move the selection Down one row
6) Move the list Down one "page" (the number of SnipList visible at one time)
7) Display the last SnipList
