Drag and Drop or Paste to Snip
Previous  Top  Next

Most people who use PageSnip will access it from the Context Menu extensions (right-click menu) inside Internet Explorer, or they will use the built-in PageSnip web browser. FireFox and Opera users can use PageSnip with plug-in's for those browsers which give them Internet Explorer sessions (PageSnip will function normally within these sessions).

In addition to using the right-click (Context Menu) in Internet Explorer or the built-in web browser of PageSnip you can also snip a page or create a PDF of a web page using Drag and Drop or Copy and Paste.

However sometimes you want to use an alternative browser that does not yet have PageSnip extensions (such as Safari PC) or you want to snip a page or create a PDF and the URL is in a document, spreadsheet, database, or some other program.

The Drag/Drop and Paste window makes it easy to do this. All you need to do is drag a URL from another source and simply drop it on this button (or open the window if you want to paste a URL). Then you can click a button to snip the page or create the PDF.

Tip: This feature can also be used to rescue the content you want to snip in case you have been surfing and accidentally crossed some web page that used a script to disable the right-click menu (where you access the PageSnip commands). Many times Internet travelers cross a site where right-click is prohibited and a script disables this feature in your browser (often without warning). It is annoying to have to close your browser, restart it and navigate again to the page where you want (and are allowed) to snip. While it is less convenient to drag the URL here (or copy/paste it via the Windows clipboard) it is still faster than restarting your browser.

You can access this feature by dragging a URL from the address bar of your web browser and dropping it on this button on the PageSnip main menu:

You can also click the button to open the window first if you prefer.

The Drag & Drop / Copy & Paste screen looks like this:

Using Drag and Drop

To drag the URL from Internet Explorer place your mouse over the icon in the address bar (known as a Favicon) and hold down the left mouse button.

Then drag the mouse while holding down the left button until it is over the URL field of this window.

When you release the mouse the URL field should contain the same URL as you saw in your browser.

Note: This feature may not work with all browsers (or future versions of them) as some of them block drag operations away from the browser window.

You can also drag a URL from a document such as Word or Excel.

Using Copy and Paste

To use the copy and paste feature simply highlight the URL in the address bar (or other document or program) and use CTRL+C or the Copy button to place it on the Windows Clipboard.

Click the Paste URL button to add it to the URL field.

To clear the URL and start over click the Clear URL button.

To Snip the page of the URL click the Snip URL button.

When the page is snipped you will be in the PageSnip Assistant.

Note: this is the same type of snip as an "Add Page" from the Internet Explorer context menu.

To create a PDF from the URL click the Create PDF button.

Note: this is the same operation as selecting "Create PDF" from the Internet Explorer context menu.
